Is that NYE hangover still lurking around?

Is that NYE hangover still lurking around?

I get the WORST hangovers to the point that I now have a rule; I only drink at occasions and 99% of the time I stick to 2 drinks maximum. That way I can enjoy some of my favourite drinks without feeling the effects the day after.
Like most of us though, I do sometimes get 'over served' if you know what I mean...so I have a few tricks I use to take off the edge of a hangover. Below are some of the most effective vitamins and supplements I have found to help ease a fuzzy head and support your body's recovery process. Let jump in-
 B Vitamins.
Alcohol depletes B vitamins, which are essential for energy production and overall well-being. Taking a B-complex supplement before and after drinking can help replenish these nutrients. B vitamins also aid in the metabolism of alcohol, potentially reducing the severity of a hangover. Illuminate and Hydrate contains vitamins B5 & B7 and tastes SO nice, its the perfect pick me up after too many champers!
Vitamin C.
Alcohol consumption can lead to oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps combat these effects. Taking a vitamin C supplement before drinking and the next day can support your body's recovery and reduce hangover symptoms. Again, Illuminate & Hydrate contains 100% of your daily amount of vitamin C, as does Rejuvenate & Firm- Hallelujah!
Milk Thistle.
Milk thistle is a herb known for its liver-protective properties. It contains an active compound called silymarin, which helps detoxify the liver and promote its regeneration. Taking a milk thistle supplement before and after drinking may help reduce the impact of alcohol on your liver and alleviate hangover symptoms. Milk Thistle can reduce the effect of some forms of oral contraception so take a look into this before using it.
N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
NAC is an amino acid that supports liver function and acts as a potent antioxidant. It helps replenish glutathione, a crucial antioxidant that alcohol depletes. Taking NAC before and after drinking can potentially reduce the severity of a hangover and support liver health. An alternative would be to also take Glutathione directly, this amino acid is in our Rejuvenate & Firm supplement.
Magnesium.
Alcohol consumption can deplete magnesium levels in the body, leading to symptoms such as muscle cramps and fatigue. I always feel sore the day after drinking (I put it down to my dance moves!) Taking a magnesium supplement before bed can help replenish these levels and alleviate hangover symptoms. I also love a magnesium flake bath the next day.
Electrolytes.
Alcohol is a diuretic, causing increased urine production and electrolyte imbalances. Replenishing electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, and magnesium can help restore hydration and alleviate hangover symptoms. Consuming electrolyte-rich drinks or taking electrolyte supplements can be beneficial. I am currently trialling some of these, so I will keep you posted with my faves!
Ginger.
Ginger has long been used to alleviate nausea and digestive discomfort. It can be consumed as a supplement or in the form of ginger tea to help soothe an upset stomach caused by excessive alcohol consumption. If you feel sickly the next day, a nice cup of ginger tea sipped slowly really does work. I drank ALOT of this through my first trimesters of my pregnancies too.
I hope these vitamins and supplements can help you ease that NYE hangover if its still lurking about! Of course the best way to avoid one all together is moderation- which is one of my main focuses across my whole life in 2024!
Happy New Year to you all, here is to a year of good health, happiness & GLOWING SKIN!
