Instead of reaching for your morning coffee this winter to warm up, why not try one of my favourite skin boosting hot drinks.
I have made a list of my favourite hot drinks that not only warm us up from the inside on a cold winter morning, but also offer a range of nutrients and antioxidants that promote skin health.
Green Tea
Green tea has long been celebrated for its numerous health benefits, including its positive impact on the skin. Packed with antioxidants called catechins, green tea helps fight free radicals, reducing the signs of ageing and promoting a youthful appearance. Additionally, it contains anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated skin and reduce redness. Regular consumption of green tea can also help maintain skin elasticity and protect against sun damage. I have one everyday and I add a slice of Lemon.
Turmeric Latte (Golden Milk)
One of my faves! Turmeric, a vibrant yellow spice, has gained popularity for its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties over the past few years. When combined with warm milk and other spices like ginger and cinnamon, it creates a delicious and nourishing drink known as a turmeric latte or golden milk. Turmeric helps combat skin inflammation, acne, and eczema, while also promoting a natural glow. Its antioxidant content aids in reducing oxidative stress, which can contribute to premature ageing. This makes for a gorgeous, calming evening drink, before bed.
Matcha Latte
Matcha, a finely ground powder made from green tea leaves, is renowned for its high concentration of antioxidants. A matcha latte combines this vibrant powder with steamed milk, creating a creamy and invigorating drink. The antioxidants in matcha help protect the skin from damage caused by environmental factors, such as pollution and UV rays. Additionally, matcha contains chlorophyll, which can detoxify the skin and promote a healthy complexion. This is a drink I like to grab on the go when I am out and about instead of a coffee, it stops me getting that post coffee crash!
Hot Lemon Water
A classic! Simple yet effective. Starting your day with a cup of warm water infused with fresh lemon juice can provide a range of benefits. Lemons are rich in vitamin C, which is essential for collagen production, promoting skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. The drink also aids in detoxification, flushing out toxins that can contribute to skin issues like acne and dullness. This is a lovely way to start your day and is quick to make in a rush!
Herbal Teas
Various herbal teas, such as chamomile, rooibos, and peppermint, offer unique skin benefits. Chamomile tea possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated skin and reduce redness. Rooibos tea is rich in antioxidants, including flavonoids, which help protect the skin against free radicals and promote a healthy complexion. Peppermint tea, known for its refreshing flavour, can help calm skin inflammation and provide a cooling effect. I am a huge tea fan, and have quite a range at home. I find a cup of tea really comforting!
I hope I have convinced you to swap that latte out this winter for one of my favourite hot drinks with added skin benefits.
Adding in one of these to your daily routine can be an effective way to support your skin's health. From green tea's anti-ageing properties to turmeric latte's anti-inflammatory effects, these beverages offer a range of nutrients and antioxidants that contribute to a radiant complexion. So, the next time you reach for a hot drink, consider choosing one that not only warms your body but also nourishes your skin from within.
Cheers to a healthier and more beautiful you!
